Roraima & Angel Fall Trek – Jonathan’s experience

I just came back from Venezuela with Turpial Travel, and I cannot say enough good things about them. I am a pretty experienced traveler, but Venezuela provides some unique challenges that I was not prepared for. Good thing Joanne over at Turpial was already anticipating those possible issues, and took care of them beforehand. I dont think I would feel safe traveling in Venezuela without an amazingly professional team behind this trip to help me. Thank you so much to Joanne and anyone else that helped make this an outrageous adventure that I will never forget!!

Harrison Ford had been in Venezuela

After I learned Harrison Ford had been in Venezuela, I thought there might be more to him than Hollywood. I started researching his life “behind the scenes” and learned that he has been part of Conservation International (CI) Board of Directors for over 15 years. Check out his latest public service announcement for CI’s climate change campaign. The campaign focuses on the critical issue of stopping deforestation which is one of the quickest and most cost-effective ways to significantly reduce global carbon emissions. Very cool!

Lost Worlds: Life in the Balance?

Last week I was having dinner with a couple of friends and I found out that actor and conservationist Harrison Ford narrated a nature and wildlife documentary called Lost Worlds: Life in Balance. The movie, directed by Bayley Silleck, takes viewers on a global exploration on how all living things interconnect in our planet. The documentary leaps off the top of Angels Falls – the tallest waterfall in the world; it dives into active volcanoes; and it climb to the top of tropical rain forest which allows you to participate in the epic story of biodiversity and its profound importance to human life. I must say I was quite impressed with the documentary. I even bought the video!

Did you know what inspired “Up’s” Lost World and Paradise Falls?

Did you know that the centerpiece of Up’s “Lost World” was inspired by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Lost World and a legendary waterfall found in Venezuela which cascades a staggering 9,700 feet from cloud-enshrouded cliffs to the jungle below?

Did you know that although Up’s “Paradise Falls” does not exist in the real world, the sketches, photographs, and videos used by Director Pete Docter to create Up’s fictional waterfall were taken from Canaima National Park? Read more
